Mississippi is benefiting from a new partnership between Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (PTK) and the Bower Foundation. The partnership aims to help hardworking, high-achieving Mississippi community college students complete their degrees in nursing and allied health fields. The initiative, funded by the Bower Foundation, provides PTK member scholarships to 600 students across the state.

In addition to being awarded PTK member scholarships, students will benefit from leadership training, career networking, high-level professional development resources, and access to competitive and transfer scholarships. Grant outcomes include completion at the community college, successful transfer, and completion of a bachelor’s degree. Membership in PTK has been shown to increase student success outcomes, and members in Mississippi have a 93% student success rate.

“Building and retaining a strong healthcare workforce in Mississippi has never been more important,” said PTK President and CEO Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner. “This grant opens the doors of opportunity to Mississippi’s nursing and allied health students by providing professional development opportunities and access to lifechanging scholarships. We are grateful to the Bower Foundation for working alongside us to scale our impact and strengthen Mississippi’s future healthcare workforce.”

Committed to strengthening the healthcare workforce in Mississippi, the Bower Foundation recognizes the key role the state’s community colleges play in supporting students toward the completion of their healthcare degrees. The Foundation supports colleges and organizations that have a proven track record of providing support services and professional development opportunities to the State’s future healthcare workforce.
